WHAT IS SEDEX PLATFORM?

SEDEX (Supplier Ethical Data Sharing) is a non-profit organization, the world's largest collaboration platform responsible for supply chains, with 40,000 members in more than 150 countries. It was founded in England in 2001 by a group of retailers. SEDEX is the online database that can help identify, manage and mitigate ethical risks in the global supply chain. SEDEX has two main purposes, the first of which is to ease the burden of suppliers facing multiple audits, surveys and certifications. The second goal is to advance improvements in the ethical performance of global supply chains and ensure traceability.

While improving supply chain standards, it alleviates the audit burden on suppliers by sharing audit reports. SEDEX provides advancement and improvement in business ethics and responsibility practices in the global supply chain. SEDEX is the most effective and simple way to manage ethical and responsible practices in your supply chain. It is a report in which many main points such as occupational health and safety, quality department, human resources, supplier relations, purchasing and environment are inspected within the framework of business ethics and ethics.

Members of SEDEX store, share and report information in 4 main areas. What are these 4 main areas?

Employee (Worker) Standards: "The issues to be considered in labor standards are legal working hours, equal treatment of all employees, leaves, legal requirements of EU standards, ethical standards and equal rights, as well as no child labor, harassment and abuse."

Health and Safety: “To regulate and implement the duties, powers, responsibilities, rights and obligations of employers and employees in order to ensure occupational health and safety in workplaces and to improve existing health and safety conditions.

Environment: "To work in accordance with environmental laws, regulations and standards, to protect the environment and to spread this principle to all employees, the environment, the country and the world."

Business Ethics: "The set of rules that all employees in the business must follow is called business ethics. And the top management, including itself, must determine policies and implement them."

Members prepare for the audit to make a statement of performance on four main key areas. Companies that can participate in the supply chain through auditing must fulfill their responsibilities.

SEDEX members are shaped as follows;

· There are 3 membership types reflecting the different functional levels in the SEDEX system: Buyers (A members), Buyer, Suppliers (EU members), Suppliers (B members).

· As a buyer (A members), you can access your suppliers' audit reports, corrective action activities, certificates and ethical data reports. In short, you can access your suppliers' information completely with SEDEX.

· The ability to run reports on Buyer, Supplier (EU members), supplier data and monitor the progress of suppliers helps you achieve effective performance improvement. You can also share your company information with multiple customers in a safe place.

· You can deliver your supplier (B members) audit reports, certificates and corrective actions to multiple customers.

· Being a member of SEDEX does not mean an approved supplier, it means that you will be a supplier committed to continuous improvement.

SEDEX Members Ethical Trade Audit (SMETA) is one of the world's most widely used ethical audit formats. SMETA is an audit procedure that compiles good practices in ethical auditing techniques. SMETA is not a new code of conduct, a new methodology or a certification process. With a SMETA audit, a supplier can reach multiple customers. Although SMETA was developed for SEDEX members, non-members can also benefit from this audit. The SMETA methodology uses the Ethical Trade Initiative (ETI) code and local law as measurements. SMETA audit consists of two levels: 2 pillar and 4 pillar. While the 2-pillar audit covers parts related to business standards and health and safety, the 4-pillar audit also adds additional modules on environment and business ethics. 4 pillar inspection is a wider, more in-depth inspection. SEDEX audits are carried out by accredited audit companies.
